The Virtual Physician Summit 2017 Helps Docs Take Their Careers to the Next Level of Success

There are moments in your life when you know you’ve done the right thing and attending the Physician Virtual Summit 2017 in Houston, Texas was one of them. I had no pre-conceived expectations except to finally meet some of the members of RoweDocs, a group of physicians who practice medicine virtually under the leadership of founder and CEO, Dr. Latisha Rowe, a visionary, leader and game changer in terms of our healthcare delivery systems.

The conference was held in a venue called TMC Innovation Center and had a feel of “21st Century” ambience.

For the next 8 hours, a room filled with physicians from all specialties listened to dynamic lectures and presentations on how to “think outside of the box.
We also received a glimpse of innovative designs that promote patient safety though a dynamic presentation by Dr. Wendy Whittington and Mark Mescher, of the medical start-up company, Angel MD.

Angel, MD has invested in a football helmet that has safety features to prevent concussions. It is deemed “the safest helmet on the market.” The Associated Press reports that approximately 50 NFL players are using the helmet. Angel MD has also invested in a catheter that is inserted into blood vessels and can detect early perforations based on special sensors. That means that if a blood vessel is accidently cut or torn during a surgical procedure, it can be detected much faster, thus potentially minimizing risks and saving lives.

The keynote speaker of the conference was KevinMD, a physician blogger who provides the public with an unfiltered perspective of physicians concerns and needs.

Drs. Angela Nunnery, a Houston-based family practitioner shared stories about taking care of hurricane disaster patients virtually for free. Drs. Audrey Ross Powell and Karla Vital discussed treating hypertensive and obese patients virtually.

The conference ended with a memorable and dynamic presentation by Dr. Rowe who reminded each participant of her invaluable worth. I left the conference feeling very empowered and thought about a quote from Socrates: “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, on not fighting the old, but on building the new.”

Thank you, VPC 2017 for teaching us all how to build something new.
